The Holy Ghost

What does the Holy Ghost do?

Abides with us forever
He dwells within us
Teach us all things
Bring us remembrance
Bear witness of Christ
Reprove the world of sin

What can we do to follow the Holy Ghost?

Listen to the truth testifying of the Savior
Remember the Savior

Leadership and Service

  • In the scriptures, Christ washed His disciples feet. He taught them that leadership is not having all ultimate power over those who are in one's care, but being humble and willing to do anything to help others. Today, in our country and in the world, leadership can be skewed. People love power, and often when they have it, it is misused. Christ showed by His example of washing the feet of His disciples that leadership is love, compassion, meekness, and righteousness. There is no better way to lead and to teach than how Christ did when He was on the earth, and now, when He gives His revelation to the prophets.
  • Once, before my youngest sister was born, my mom was not doing very well health-wise, and she wasn't able to do the things she needed to do in order to keep the kind of house she had been. A great act of service was when our home teachers made dinner for us every week. They brought over meals for months, and were kind and generous in other aspects of our lives. I will always be thankful to their serving hands that were humble and kind in our hour of need. They really helped our family, and were such a great blessing.

Matt 26:30

Matt 26:30
If I sing in my heart even when I know times are not the best, then I will be able to become closer to God, and Christ.
Ever since primary, we have been taught to keep a prayer in our hearts and a hymn to keep away bad thoughts. I have always apreciated the fact that I can go back to a certain hymn for comfort and purity. I always have the primary song "A Child's Prayer" in my mind when I need a little extra hand. My number 2 go-to song is "I Know That My Redeemer Lives".These songs have helped me overcome not good thoughts, scary moments, times when I had doubts, and tough times in my life. I know that keeping a song with us can increase our testimonies, because I know that song is such a pure and true way to share a testimony. I love musical numbers in church, because they always help to bring the spirit in. I loved the way Christ sang with His desciples right after the last supper. He knew it would be hard from that moment on, and He knew that His own desciple would betray Him very soon, and yet, they sang a hymn. It is a very powerful thing, music.

Watch for the Last Days!

1. Three things to watch for in preparing for the second coming are: Using the Holy ghost to avoid being deceived, being strongly persecuted for Christ’s sake, yet holding true, and listening to the words Christ has spoken, even when it’s extremely hard to do.

2. Ways to prepare:

a. Stand in holy places.

b. Beware of “abomination” and “desolation”.

c. Treasure the Lord’s words.

d. Watch for the second coming like a home owner watches for thieves.

e. Serve the Lord.

f. Be faithful and pray always.

g. “Take the Holy Spirit for your guide”.

The Widow's Mites

  • The widow who gave her last little bit of money for tithing lived the principles of Christ's teachings in that she loved God more than herself. She could have easily used that money for herself, but she gave it to God instead. Christ said "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength" and the widow did, all the way through.
  • 2 Nephi 25:23 teaches "For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do." and The widow did just that. She gave all that she had. Relative to what she had, she gave her all, whereas the rich men only gave a little, and were being glorified by men. The widow will be saved by grace, because she did all that she could do.
  • We don't have to sacrifice every cent we have to be like the widow, but we do have to do all that we can do for the kingdom. We can sacrifice time and talent, or we can do service and show love for those in need. I think that doing all we can do involves much more than money. We can sacrifice of ourselves to become closer to God. We will be saved if we do.

Matthew 22:33

Matthew 22:33
If I can follow what I know is right, and not the "multitude", then I will be one of the few blessed people who know the truth.
I think it is really hard for us in these days to stay true to the path when so much around us tempts us to follow another way. I think it is really important to know which way is right, and I have struggled many times with this because I thought, "How can I be one of the lucky ones when the whole world around me is in darkness? I was just born into this, and that is such a small percentage of people in this world! How was it me?" But I have come to know that I was a person in the premortal life who knew Christ, and I wouldn't give in to Satan, which is why I am here in the first place. I was sent to do good, and to further Christ's kingdom. I know that even though there are so many out there without the gospel, I can change that by enlightening others, and not following the "multitude". Even in Christ's time, there were so very many people who didn't believe and were hard-hearted. I don't want to be one of them. I want to follow Christ.
